Jumpstarting a Summer of Love, (and Dirt)
AFFORDABLE PACKAGES TO JUMPSTART YOUR GARDEN

We are pleased to announce our Jumpstart Package , the most affordable way for both beginning and experienced gardeners alike to engage BBY's services!

We'll be running this special throughout June, July, and August.  We come out for a day for between $650 and $950 and you get a jumpstart on whatever garden tasks you want to reinvigorate or begin.

A sample day might include:

  • Learn how to plant high-yielding Blueberries,
  • Planting beautiful & beneficial companion plants with overlapping benefits (tea, medicinal, soil building, & biodiversity!)
  • 40-60 square foot organic annual vegetable garden for Fall planting (August 10th-30th)
  • Detailed plant list for ease of care and maintenance,
  • Optional hands-on planting tutorial with BBY's intergalactic garden heroes

We are proud to have spurred so many to take what BB ally Jane Norton calls the 'Natural Step'--reducing energy consumption, growing some of your own food, and building community block by block, neighborhood by neighborhood.  Here's what some people are saying about their Bountiful Backyards experience:

"Thanks for all of your help getting our garden ready for spring planting, its definitely been revitalized!  We still have lots to learn but you've helped us take a big step toward a more productive and chemical free approach to gardening.  After spending way too much money on bags of soil, we're looking forward to a great harvest this summer!"  B & J, Anderson St, Durham

"To all, we love the garden and plants.  It is just what we envisioned.  Give everyone our thanks."  P & D, Parkwood Area, Durham

"Boy, do we have lettuce from the crew helping us this Spring--it's fantastic! And turnips, and beets, radishes, and some carrots, parsnips and even zucchini and tomatoes getting started... It's a dream."  K & G, Southwest Durham

"You can't measure how much we, as a family, had gained from our work with you all."  M & B, South Durham

"After your crew left I spent all weekend working more on the garden...I must have drank the Koolaid!  : )  Can't wait for everything to start growing!!" C in Cary

"Working with BB has truly opened my eyes to how important it is for us to rethink how we choose to landscape our homes.  Start outside your door by rebuilding soil to a healthy mineral rich living soil, capture and retain water in the soil, plant edible plants and trees and attract beneficial insects with flowering plants.  It really inspired me to further tap into my conservationist personality and work to get rid of my water-sucking monoculture lawn and start diversifying it and producing food and habitat for myself and other friends, animals and insects.  Sooo..I can't wait to get started in the garden!"  L in North Durham

"You all have really helped and inspired us. Our tomoates are just now coming in so we are finally getting to taste the fruit of our labor..and it's delicious! It's the most successful harvest we've had in a long time."  A in Chapel Hill

SPRING SEASON MARKED BY HUGE SUCCESSES

We hope that all of your gardens are doing well and that the unexpectedly mystical Farmer's Almanac continues to be (mostly) right about a milder and wetter June!  Bountiful has had a great Spring season, including:

  • Working with 25 great Triangle residents on most copious edible landscaping designs and installations
  • Completing two short courses: Landscapes You Can Eat at Durham Tech and Backyard Pharmacy with Will Endres
  • Chris Rumbley of BB and Good Work launching Sustainable Vocations North Carolina (!)
  • Hands on-workshops on annual vegetables, beekeeping, and forest garden installation
  • Leading a tour of some of Durham's urban agriculture sites with the Triangle Land Conservancy
  • Being part of the all-star organizational team getting the Cornucopia Urban Agriculture Land Trust up off the ground and running
  • Planting for and with the people 'Outside the Fence ' at SEEDS DIG garden
  • And beginning Two Ton Farm , a 2500 sq. ft. self (shoestring) funded cooperative urban mini-farm in Northeast Central Durham with our apprentices Omar, Takeem, Ishmael & Durham's Greenspace Initiative!

We appreciate all of your continued support and let us know if we can give you a jumpstart and we hope you can spread the word to your friends.

In Abundance,

Chris, Sarah, Keith, David, Kate, Ishmael, Omar, & Takeem
